Finished Portraits

Had a lot of fun with this! These are what I've been up to for the past week, in-between work projects. I did them all separately, but I like them comped together like this.

Drawing Normal People? What?!

Busy doing a series of family portraits for a coworker. Thought I'd share some of the line drawings-- they'll be colored soon. It's been a while since I've drawn people that aren't half alien or robot or giant monster or giant alien robot.

Fun!

John The Fisherman, Sci-fied!

My buddy John, complete with creepy animal hat and fishing pole (#insidejokes). I imagine that his sci-fi fishing pole expands like one of those toy lightsabers.

Cyborg

Cybernetic arm with electric karate chopping action!

I've been on a kick lately with these sketchy sci-fi warmups! Hopefully I can keep up the trend for a few more days-- maybe find time to color one. Feels good to be in art mode again!

Robot Bounty Hunter

Another post today! Having a lot of fun with this brush.

Dino Space Marine

Really enjoying this traditional-looking brush. It's one of PS' stock brushes, with this cool triangular tip to it. Had fun with this character, too!

Robot

Done entirely digitally.

Was messing around with a semi-traditional-looking brush, plus the paper texture and some blending modes to make it look even more traditionally drawn.

Don't know why, just felt like exploring something with a less digital look to it.

Collection of Concept Art

Some loose concepts for an awesome screenplay my good friend Dan Skubal wrote.

Wizard Wednesday

"...and almost as instantly as his magical abilities came to fruition he projected a great burst of energy before him, and in the blinding light he brought life into the object of his dreams."

Had time for a quick Drawloween today! Today's theme was "Wizard Wednesday".

Desert

Background painting, messing with fancy brushes. Heavily inspired by some Pixar production art-- not sure what film.

Evasive Maneuvers

Inspired by the new-ish "Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers" comics, from Dynamite Entertainment.

Paint Doodle

Trying to get back into the scene-painting mode! Did this thing today. Don't know what it is. Enjoy!

Recent Junk

Things have been VERY busy at work lately-- the workflow here has been shifting and transforming and going bonkers over the past couple months. For now, the only personal works I've been able to do are some goofy half-done concepts and doodles. Here's a few of them!

I anticipate some new paintings coming very soon. Fingers crossed!

Big Day at ASB Chicago!

Today is a big deal! ASB recently finished a new Australian Gold spot that went straight to broadcast. This is big, considering we focus primarily on pre-production animatics. The kicker: I was named "Art Director"! I personally only did a few sketches for this one, mostly directed other artists, but I do have a snippet of some of my production artwork for you:

This piece was initially intended as a rough reference for our teams, but I guess our Creative Director deemed it suitable (ha), because our 3D modellers used it as their official character concept! That was pretty exciting to hear, that one of my doodles would be animated and broadcast all over the web. And here's the next coolest thing:

See? Art Director! You can watch the commercial on our Facebook page, here:

Enjoy!

Beer Label!

For a friend who's been working on some home brews! This project became somewhat of a Frankenstein thing-- I didn't follow my usual procedure, tried a few new techniques, and altogether ended up with something...interesting. Perfect for a beer label!

Fan Art!

I don't do fan art often...but, DID YOU KNOW that my other non-painting-related hobby is collecting and playing old SNES and N64 games? Now you know!

Here's a tribute to my very first video game as a kid and still the all-time favorite, Donkey Kong Country.

Today's Sketches

Not sure why, but this little devil happened today!

Also, I had to draw my bosses for a marketing thing at work...which turned out to be pretty funny.

Just doodles today, but I'll have a more fleshed-out painting up soon!
